Eastern Pyrenees

The Eastern Pyrenees region has a lot to offer to the visitor, from breathtaking landscapes to some unique wildlife. The relative proximity to Barcelona city make it possible to arrange one-day trips to this area, starting early in the morning. High mountains and deep valleys, rocky cliffs and alpine meadows, dense pine and deciduous forests, are some of the main habitats.

KEY SPECIES
Alpine Accentor, Lammergeier, Citril Finch, White-winged Snowfinch, Rock Thrush, Golden Eagle, Red-Billed and Alpine Chough, Black Woodpecker, Water Pipit, Ring Ouzel, Red-backed Shrike, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Snake Eagle.

DURATION
1 day visits are possible, starting early. It can be extended or combined with other areas, like Empordà or Lleida Steppes.

WHEN
Can be visited all year, although some species are much easier to spot –or even exclusive–, during specific seasons. Expect snow on the high parts during the winter.
